Remembering Elvis Bo Jangels

Elvis was a rescue Yorkshire-Terrier mix dog that I received last September. That's right: mostly Yorkshire, and a bit of terrier mixed in for the fun.

He quickly became my best buddy and helped me through a crucial time in my life. I fully knew going in that time with him would be precious. It was!! As a senior dog, Elvis had some ailments, but his wet nose and licks made up for them. He came fully house trained and he had manners that was a king. Elvis at some point in his life, was hit, most likely by a car. His mouth didn't close all the way; nor did he walk normal. Hence the name "Elvis". However, he could run, and play with the best of 'em and he showed me when we went to the park.

The "Bo Jangles" part is in with my sister's former dog Bo. Jangles was added for the Jerry Jeff Walker song made famous by many singers. Elvis Bo Jangles.

He ended up rescuing me and I am grateful that a dog of his stature choose me! Those two a.m. walks were -- and still are -- meaningless to me. He had to go and go he did! He only had one accident in the house during that time with me.

As his life came to a close, Elvis continued to show me the way. His eyes told me it was time (see pictures below); and the pain become unbearable for him -- let alone myself.

I joked with the Yorkshire board that Elvis choose me -- he walked me twice a day, made sure I took care of him, and was at my side when times were tough. You can't get much better than that.

When it came apparent that the Rainbow Bridge was his last path on this Earth, Elvis showed me the grace, the comfort, and the serenity of life. Even with those eyes telling me that the pain was great, he showed me that grace will conquer all.

With that, I take a lot of him with me. Non-pet owners probably will not understand, but those who are blessed will. Dogs (and cats to some extent) will show you the secrets of life. Yorkshire Terriers, Elvis' breed, show you the hidden path, the truth of it all, and the grace of God.

For 11 months and five days, I was fortunate to have Elvis in my life -- and his lessons will be with me for life.

Thank you for reading, and this remains a great day!!!
